FCC Chair Proposes Rule Requiring AI Disclosure in Robocalls

The agency would also require FCC consent to use AI-generated calls.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Jessice Rosenworcel proposed new rules this week that would require companies using robocall technology to obtain FCC permission to use AI generated robocalls and to disclose to consumers when the call they are receiving is AI generated.

“Bad actors are already using AI technology in robocalls to mislead consumers and misinform the public,” Chair Rosenworcel stated. “That’s why we want to put in place rules that empower consumers to avoid this junk and make informed decisions.”

The commission will vote to approve this proposed ruling during its next meeting in August. This proposal follows a similar FCC ruling approved in February, in which the agency took on the authority to fine and block illegal robocalls and allowed consumers and organizations to sue illegal robocallers.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Rosenworcel to be prudent as she presides over the FCC’s regulation proposals.
  • For discernment for members of the FCC as they review this proposal at the meeting in August.
  • For the president and his administration as they calibrate policies to accommodate the digital age.
